August 10, 2026 — On Monday night, the Geyserville Oriental Community Hall filled with residents eager to weigh in on one of the most talked-about local projects in years: a proposed SMART train station for Geyserville.
Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit staff walked the crowd through the status. The idea isn’t new. Back in 2002, SMART’s founding legislation limited commuter stations north of Healdsburg to incorporated areas only, which left Geyserville out of the conversation for years. That changed in 2023, when Geyserville residents began requesting a station and met with SMART’s general manager and local councils. In 2024, state legislation (SB904, authored by Senator Dodd) opened the door for a station in unincorporated Sonoma County between Healdsburg and Cloverdale. SMART’s five-year strategic plan built on that momentum in 2025, and this past June, the SMART Board of Directors directed staff to begin public engagement on a potential Geyserville station. Monday’s meeting was the first big step in that process.
After the presentation, the real conversation started. Residents lined up at information boards covering the proposed multi-use pathway alignment, station renderings, and construction timelines, asking SMART staff pointed questions about how a Geyserville station would affect progress toward the long-promised Cloverdale extension. Staff was clear: Cloverdale remains the goal, and a Geyserville station would actually break the project into two smaller, more grant-competitive phases rather than delay it.
SMART left the community with three questions to keep thinking about: Do you support a Geyserville station being added to the system? Do you support the proposed location? And would another spot along the SMART right of way do a better job connecting people to transit, jobs, and daily life in town?
That kind of turnout, and that level of engagement, is exactly what shapes a project like this. Thank you to everyone who came out, asked hard questions, and shared what a station in Geyserville should look like.
